OK, here’s the thing about Her Madgesty, and I’m going to be straight with you: I don’t love the Madonna of today. The Madonna of 2012 will be as well large, powerful too, as well inscrutable to recognize with in any true method. And she has a superhuman physique. At 53, she’s been a household name for 30 years nearly, since her self-titled debut album dropped in 1983 ever. She’t sold a good estimated 300 million information and toured nearly every inches of the world worldwide. Honestly, can anyone who’s not, like, Gwyneth Paltrow relate to her? She owns multiple gargantuan houses in multiple cosmopolitan cities. She’s become a mother to four adorable kids. I tolerate her the way I might tolerate a beloved friend from kindergarten who became someone unrecognizable in high school. She offers married and divorced more than one hot famous guy.
But I’m 35 (going on 16), and growing up in the ’80s, I was her most ardent lover and promoter. My fixation deepened when I saw the video for "Lucky Star" on MTV. Watch the plucky upstart defend its legitimacy, putting the smackdown on a dismissive John Oates in this clip.) She was cool-looking, cool-sounding, smart, ballsy, brave, and entirely unlike any additional girl I’n actually stumbled upon. (She was one of the first artists to embrace the then-new medium. I first heard the Material Girl on the radio when I has been six and riding in the backseat of my grandmother’s car-it was the amazeballs classic "Borderline." I had been smitten with her tone of voice and the bubblegum-goodness of the music immediately. (Yes, that’s me.) I started putting on dark ribbons mitts instantly, neon accents, and a hair rag. (No, I was.) To me, Madonna had been everything.
For me, vintage Madonna is, in some real ways, the just edition of Madge that really will besues. Here are five reasons why she will be literally the best thing ever-in her own (youthful) words, as the crazily egotistical King of Put would would like it certainly. The Madonna of those decades exemplified everything I wished and expected womanhood would be-exciting, spunky, bold, colorful, brave, Unknown and rebellious. Not because she didn’t go on to have an incredibly influential care usuallyer, but because the Madonna of that era reminds me most of my childhood, when I was still slowly piecing together my identity and actively looking for female role models to help fill in the gaps.
